Spenser's first fall

My son, what a boy! The other day, we were playing outside and Spenser tripped over something. He was wearing shorts, so when he went down, he scraped his knee. He kind of whimpered and looked up to me for me to pick him up. When I looked at his knee I noticed it was bleeding. I began to take him to Joul so he could clean Spenser's knee, however, when Spenser noticed he was being taken inside, he immediately wiggled out of my arms and acted as if nothing had happened. He was so cute! If this was Chloe, she would still be crying about it, and of course, unable to walk. I just love my princess and my crazy guy!
Okay, so it doesn't look that bad, but I am his mommy, and it hurt!
Helping daddy clean his knee
All better!

Dirt!

Okay, so my son officially loves dirt. It may have taken Chloe four years to give into the awesomeness that is dirt, however, she now also loves dirt. Now that the weather has been nice, we have spent a lot of time outside. The other day, I noticed that Spenser was spending a large amount of time at the end of our driveway. Now, we live at the end of a cul-de-sac, and receive no traffic. So I wasn't really worried about him playing by the street as I was the amount of time he was spending there. When I began to walk towards him, I noticed he was rubbing his paci in the dirt and then sticking the paci back in his mouth. When he noticed me, he began to giggle and started to run away. My son, he loves dirt.
A few days ago, we were all playing in the backyard while Joul did some yard work. He decided to take the hose and make a mud pit for the kids to play around in. Oh my goodness, that was a HUGE success. Of course, my beautiful princess was in a dress, and she did not hesitate sitting right down in that mud pit. Spenser ran (well as fast as a one year old can run) over to the mud and immediately started squishing his hands all in the mud and then took the liberty to place a nice glob of mud on his sister's face. Oh the joys of Spring: sunny weather, bike rides, frisbee games, and the best one of all, DIRT!

Washington on the Brazos

Over spring break, we went to College Station to spend some time with my parents and my sister and her family. On Wednesday, we decided to take the kids to Washington on the Brazos, which is considered the birth place of Texas, and have a picnic lunch there. They had a museum there with a room for kids that had all kinds of hands on activities. They also had a living farm where the kids got to play with old timey toys, hand wash clothes (really just scraps of fabric) like they use to way back in the early times, and feed chickens. We also bought Chloe a bonnet, which she wore ALL day and it was so cute! I, of course, forgot my camera and relied on my mom to take some pics of the kids.

Beautiful weather and biking fun!

Joul and I recently bought some bikes for ourselves and a bike trailer for Spenser so we can all ride bikes with Chloe. Bike riding has now become our Saturday morning activity at the park and everyone has a great time. Spenser was a little afraid of the bike trailer at first, but now he really enjoys riding along and watching the scenery. Chloe loves that now she can go as fast as she wants and Joul and I can actually keep up. Of course since I am pregnant, I don't know how much longer I will be able to ride with the family....hopefully I will be able to enjoy this activity for a few more months.

Also, the kids and I went outside this morning and the weather was beautiful. We were able to wear shorts and run around in the nice Spring weather. Of course, we were actually headed to the store, but I managed to lock my entire purse in the car...again! Luckily I was able to email Joul and he came home and unlocked the van for me. We both decided that Joul's set of van keys were now going to be left in the house because I will do this again.

Lately....

talking and playing...

Wrestling with mommy....

Being cute....(the ONLY picture she has let me take recently)
Getting caught playing in the toilet....gross, I know!
(and please excuse the messy bathroom)
(and yes...that is a pink hat he is wearing)

WALKING!!!

Spenser's First Haircut

Okay....so I have been a little behind in updating the blog...however, with two kids and another one on the way, my time seems to slip by much faster than before! A few weeks ago, Chloe and I took Spenser to get his first haircut. For the longest time, I told everyone that I was not going to get Spenser's haircut, he was my little baby boy, and I just didn't want to lose that with him. However, I was SO tired of constantly wiping his hair out of his eyes, that I decided it was finally time to give in and let my baby boy grow up.

The big O-N-E

My dear boy

You would think that your little life began twelve short months ago, however, that is not entirely true. A little over eight years ago, your daddy and I began thinking about you. See....Daddy is a very smart and loving man who decided on a name for his son before he even met your mommy. This name was a very heavy and meaningful name that would probably only be special to Daddy and eventually mommy. When Daddy began dating Mommy, he told me that when we get married and have our first son, he would be named Spenser Tyndale Smith. I would love to say that I fell in love with the name at soon as I heard it, however, I did not. Fast forward eight years: we have been married for seven years and we have a son named Spenser Tyndale Smith. My beautiful son, you are named after Edmund Spenser who was an English poet best recognized as one of the premier craftsman of Modern English Verse in its infancy. Your middle name is after William Tyndale who is best known as the man who first translated the Bible into English. I love the name, I love the meaning, and I love you.

Today you turn one. Today, you are no longer considered a baby, but move into the world of toddler-hood. Of course, for this mommy, you will forever be my little baby boy. These past twelve months have been such a joy with you in our family. Your smile warms my heart and your laughter brings me to my knees. The Lord blessed this family beyond any measure when He brought you into our lives.

I hope that the love you have for your sister stays strong and your love of messing with her stays even stronger! Your wonderful personality has begun to blossom and your love of adventure is very evident. Spenser, my crazy guy, you are not afraid of anything. You climb to the top of the picnic table and look around as if you just conquered the highest mountain. You grab any ball you can find and chunk it across the room in victory. You race to your sister's room and stand up at her dollhouse with a huge smile because you know she does not like that! You destroy any and all block buildings with as much gusto as a wrecking ball. You love hard, play hard, and live hard. You are one hundred percent boy and I totally love that about you!

One year ago today, we were anxiously awaiting your arrival........

This is the first time I was able to meet you...

Your big sister was was so excited when she was finally able to meet you!

Going home! You were absolutely perfect!

Here you are today. A big one year old boy! I love you
